SSC CGL Exam Highlights
SSC CGL Exam is one of the toughest exams in India. It is a graduate-level exam conducted in 2 phases i.e. Tier 1 & Tier 2. Tier 1 is qualifying in nature. Tier 2 has paper 1, paper 2 and paper 3 out of which paper 1 is compulsory. Tier 1 has been made qualifying from this year. Final merit would be based on the marks obtained by the candidates in SSC CGL Tier 2, 3 and 4 examinations.
The primary duties of a candidate recruited for the various posts under the SSC CGL exam include, providing assistance in the Audit process, data entry and processing, recording transactions, assessing the payable Income Tax for various salary bands, preventing invasion of excise duty, preventing forgery, etc... These responsibilities vary significantly from one post to the other.

20th November 2023: SSC CGL Revised Post Preference Notice Out!
The Online Window for exercising Option-cum-Preference(s) for post(s)/department(s) will be activated till 23.11.2023 (11:59 PM). Before the declaration of final result, Option-cum-Preference(s) for post(s)/ department(s) are required to be submitted by those candidates who have appeared in Tier-II examination. Candidates can download the post preference notice from the link given in this article.
17th November 2023: SSC CGL Post Preference Notice Out!
The Tier-II of CGLE-2023 was held from 26.10.2023 to 27.10.2023. Before the declaration of final result, Option-cum-Preference(s) for post(s)/ department(s) are required to be submitted by those candidates who have appeared in Tier-II examination. It is advised to submit the Option-cum-Preference for post(s)/ department(s) for CGLE-2023 through their respective ‘CANDIDATE LOGIN’ on the website of SSC. SSC CGL Eligibility Criteria 2023
To be eligible for SSC CGL 2023, candidates must meet certain important criteria. Adhering to the eligibility criteria helps maintain a high standard of quality in candidates selected for various posts under the SSC CGL recruitment process. It ensures fairness and transparency in the selection process. The SSC CGL notification outlines the parameters for eligibility, which are as follows:

Nationality
The candidate must be a citizen of India.
Educational Qualifications
Following are the educational qualifications required for SSC CGL Exam:
- (A) Assistant Audit Officer/AAO (Assistant Accounts Officer): Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute.
- (B) Junior Statistical Officer: Bachelor’s Degree in any subject from a recognized University or Institute with at least 60% Marks in Mathematics at 12th standard. OR Bachelor’s Degree in any subject with Statistics as one of the subjects at the degree level.
- (C) All other Posts - Bachelor’s Degree from a recognized University.
Age Limit
The age limit varies for different posts and according to the categories of people. SSC has recently increased the age limit for SSC CGL 2023 recruitment. The minimum age limit has been relaxed from 20 years to 18 years. The maximum age limit is set at 32 years for the unreserved category. Relaxation in the upper age limit has been given to reserved categories. Candidates can check out the details on age relaxation below in the article.

Physical Fitness Standards
Other than the above three criteria there are certain physical fitness standards to meet for the following posts- Inspector (Central Excise/ Examiner/Preventive Officer)

- Sub-Inspector in NIA (National Investigation Agency)
SSC CGL Apply Online
You can apply for the Exam through online mode only. Follow SSC CGL Apply Online steps as given below:Direct Link to Apply for SSC CGL 2023
OrStep 1 - Proceed to the SSC official website and Click on "New User? Register Now" option on the right hand side.
Step 2- Fill the application form with the required details i.e. Personal, Educational, Post Name, etc.
Step 3 - Upload scanned photograph and signature as per requirements mentioned in the official notification.
Step 4 - Preview and verify the information provided by you and Submit the Application.
Step 5 - Take out the Print Out of the Application Form for future reference.
Note: Use a valid email ID. The ID should be kept active till the declaration of results. You should keep a scanned photograph and signature ready as per the requirements mentioned in the official notification. By following these above steps, you will be able to submit your Form successfully.
SSC CGL Application Status
Once candidates have applied for the CGL Exam. Candidates must go through the application status.
- The commission has updated the application status on the website for all eligible candidates.
- After applying candidates can check their application form status from the official website.
- The information to check the application is released on the official website of SSC.
- The board releases region wise application status. Candidates are advised to check the application status depending on their region. The direct links for each region will be provided.
- Candidates have to enter their Registration Number, Date of Birth or Name to check the CGL application form status.

SSC CGL Application Fee
- The SSC CGL application or registration fees for exam is Rs. 100/- for male candidates belonging to UR and OBC category.
- SC/ST, Differently abled, ex-servicemen and female candidates have been exempted from application fee.
- You have to pay the application fee via Credit/Debit Card or Net Banking. You can also pay the application fee via offline mode only through challan of SBI.
SSC CGL Exam Pattern
The CGL Selection Process is based on two stages -- Tier-I (Computer Based Exam)
- Tier-II (Computer Based Exam)
Stage 1: SSC CGL Tier 1
- It is a computer-based online test of 200 marks in 60 minutes of time duration. There is a negative marking of 0.50 Marks for each wrong answer. There is no sectional cut off.

- There are 3 papers in the CGL Tier II.
- Paper I is compulsory for every post.
- Paper-II will be for only those candidates who apply for the posts of Junior Statistical Officer (JSO) in the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation
- Paper-III will be for only those candidates who are shortlisted in Tier-I for Paper-III i.e. for the posts of Assistant Audit Officer/ Assistant Accounts Officer.

SSC CGL Allowances

House Rent Allowance(HRA)
HRA is provided to the employees to meet their house rent needs. House rent allowance varies according to the city and is classified into 3 categories. HRA shall not be less than Rs. 5400/- pm, Rs. 3600/- pm and Rs.1800/- pm at X, Y & Z class cities respectively.
- 24% of Basic pay for X category of cities
- 16% of Basic Pay for Y category of cities
- 8% of Basic Pay for Z category of cities
HRA shall be revised to 27%, 18% & 9% of Basic Pay in X, Y & Z cities when Dearness Allowance (DA) crosses 25% and further to 30%, 20% and 10% of Basic Pay in X, Y & Z cities when DA crosses 50%
Dearness Allowance (DA)
The Dearness Allowance is a cost of living adjustment allowance and is currently 17% Of basic Pay under the 7th Pay Commission. The union cabinet has increased the DA to 17% in October 2019.
Transport Allowance (TA)
The rate of transport allowance per month various according to the place you are living in as mentioned below:
- Employees posted in the cities: Rs.3600
- Employees posted at all other places: Rs.1800
